People care about a variety of things. They care about their loved ones, about their cars, their jobs, their free time. They think of a decent work-life-balance, organic food and relaxing weekends. As human beings we are all prone to minimising the energy consumption of our body. This fundamental body function has saved the lives of our ancestors in the harsh everyday life of hunting and gathering.
Outsourcing = Time Saving?
In our modern world this energy saving could mean outsourcing. You cannot do everything on your own. We have so many people working for us. We make use of many services in all parts of our lives. I am no exception either.
Nevertheless, I am not sure whether this is a good idea regarding our physical, mental and financial health. I do not know why people place such important matters into other people’s hands. Maybe it is for time management reasons. Perhaps they simply do not want to learn something important about their bodies and minds or financial management. Or probably they need someone else to blame if things go wrong. All these presumed reasons are ok ‑ I do not judge.
Do Yourself Something Good
But for myself, I have decided to outsource neither my health nor my financial management. Yes, I go to the doctor’s. Yes, I have a bank account. But I have overtaken full responsibility for maintaining a healthy body (start here if you like), mind and some dimes in the bucket. I try to manage my belongings as good as I can possibly can. This gives me a sense of purpose and a feeling of being in control. Eventually my body and mind (let’s put the money aside for a moment) is all I really possess.
Start Now!
Maybe it is a good time to think about it. Why not trying to stop outsourcing important aspects of our lives and do some insourcing again? How about taking real ownership for things that matter most? Do not fear the commitment. It is worth it. Find enjoyment in the process. You have the choice. As always, I wish you best of luck.
