The headline reminds me of a couple of things, I would like to share with you.
It is about perspective. No advantage without a disadvantage and vice versa. According to Harville Hendrix, neuroscientists argue, that negativity is our brain’s default mode to survive. I suggest though to concentrate on the positive things because our daily threats tend to be not as dangerous as they used to be.
It also reminds me of a quote, Leo Babauta dropped in the podcast episode with Tim Ferris. The quote strongly resonates with our current times. And I agree with Leo, that if we can get a little more comfortable with uncertainty we will get out of this stronger and with more resilience than ever.
“The bad news is you’re falling through the air, nothing to hang on to, no parachute. The good news is, there’s no ground.”
Chögyam Trungpa
Finally, I remember a joke called good news and bad news. Again, it is about the point of view. Sometimes there is no obvious connection between positive and negative news. If you find out any for this one, please let me know.
A man has his annual checkup made with his physician. After the examination the doctor says to his patient: „Sir, I have good news and bad news for you. Which one do you want to hear first?“. The patient wants to hear the bad news first. The doctor goes on and states: „Sir, you have an incurable disease and there is nothing we could do about it.“ The patient is puzzled and asks what the good news is. „The good news is that I have an affair with my secretary!“ the doctor replies smiling.
