Quick Health Tips For Busy People

I often hear from people that they have no time for a regular workout. I’ll focus on the meta-problem in another blog post. I simply want to share some tips you can incorporate into your daily routine to get fitter and healthier.

Incorporate Training Into Your Daily Life

When should I do a daily workout? That’s a matter of focus, time management and prioritization. You could either squeeze in another often completely useless hour in the gym after your work. Or you can set the basis for a fit life by daily habits. This means incorporating exercise and healthy lifestyle habits into your daily life especially during work hours. Think about it: you spend so many hours working in the office – why wouldn’t you want to seize this time for doing something good for your body?

So Many Ways To Choose From

Be creative and come up with some ideas. Think about your day in the office. How can you incorporate movement and other healthy habits without the need to constantly think about them? Start small and try some of the following suggestions:

  • Buy a standing desk or convince your employer to do so: This tip alone could improve many problems we face in our sitting office world. There are enormous benefits:
Burning more calories, getting back to a tall posture without bending your thoracic spine and rolling your shoulders inward and training for your glutes, lower back and legs. It also relieves our hip flexor muscles and stretches the shortened structures in the front of our hips and legs from prolonged sitting.
Start really small (maybe 2 times of 5 minutes a day) and work up to a couple of hours. The goal is not to stand all day long but to change positions frequently.
There are plenty of standing desk options out there from manual to electric solutions. I ditched the chair altogether and have a fixed tabletop in my office.
  • Do business meetings outside.
  • Go for a walk after lunch.
  • Always take the stairs instead of the elevator and escalators.
  • Commute by bike or on foot. Or
  • Park the car or get off public transport a couple of blocks away from the office.
  • Do a little stretch routine every two hours and mark these into your calendar.
  • Incorporate more vegetables and greens into your diet. For example, eat a big salad for lunch two times a week.
  • Drink fresh water on a consistent basis during the day and keep your body hydrated.

Try some of the suggestions and see how it makes you feel. Stick to it. Change only comes if you do these on a regular basis. It will pay off! And it saves you a lot of time too.
